Discover a quieter side of Dubai — without a luxury budget.

Welcome to Dubai, Unhurried, a new blog series for slow travelers, newcomers and residents looking to discover a more peaceful, personal side of the city.

This isn't another Dubai bucket list filled with places you must visit, money you must spend or trends you must keep up with. It's about discovering the city at your own pace, finding places that feel right for you, and enjoying the simple things.

And what could be simpler than a day at the beach?

A different kind of beach day

Dubai has no shortage of beautiful beaches. The challenge is finding one that matches the kind of day you actually want to have.

JBR is lively, energetic and full of things to do — but sometimes the crowds, busy promenades and constant buzz are exactly what you'd like a break from. Even Kite Beach, one of our favorite spots for its atmosphere and outdoor activities, can feel a little too busy on weekends.

Sometimes, all you want is a wide stretch of sand, the sound of the waves, enough room to spread out your towel and a little time without a schedule.

The good news is that Dubai has other options. Some are spacious public beaches with excellent facilities, some are better suited to families or an evening walk, and one offers something rather different: a chance to leave the city behind and enjoy a secluded beach surrounded by the sea.

Here are four places to consider when you're in the mood for a quieter side of Dubai.

1. Mercato Beach: Active or slow - you choose the pace

Recently renovated, Mercato Beach is much more than a stretch of sand and turquoise water. Whether you're visiting solo, as a couple or with the kids, there's something here for everyone. With its modern facilities and attention to detail, it's a lovely place to spend a few quality hours at almost any time of day.

You will have a perfect sea view on one side and Dubai skyline with Burj Khalifa on the other. Walk towards the middle of the beach and sneak a peek at 5-star Mandarin Oriental resort and their boho-styled beach front, or maybe even head inside for a sundowner.

For beach lovers: A wide stretch of good-quality sand, turquoise water, beach showers, changing rooms and a relaxed atmosphere.

For swimmers: A long stretch of shoreline with plenty of room to swim. We especially love the unobstructed view of the open sea, which gives the beach a wonderfully natural feel.

For active visitors: An outdoor training area with street-workout equipment, a jogging trail of around one mile that continues further along the coast, a cycling track and a walking area.

For kids: a large, covered playground.

Overall best for: Swimming, jogging, leisurely strolls, sunset watching.

Insider tip: Mercato Mall is just a five-minute walk away. We recommend stopping by to admire its distinctive Italian-inspired architecture — a little unexpected in Dubai and well worth a look.

2. Jumeirah 2 Beach: a perfect Family Beach Day.

Recently renovated, Jumeirah 2 Beach is a local favorite. Its relatively sheltered stretch of water offers views of Jumeirah Bay Island as well as the open sea. It's not the largest beach in Dubai, but it has nearly everything you need to spend a full day by the water.

Park for free in the morning and start with a workout in the outdoor training area. Cool off with a swim, grab lunch from one of the nearby food spots, then consider trying a water sport later in the day.

One of the most important things about Jumeirah 2, however, is its commitment to accessibility.

The beach has dedicated facilities for older visitors and People of Determination, including complimentary beach strollers, accessible routes and a dedicated access point to the water. Specially provided sun loungers are also available for visitors who need them. In 2026, Jumeirah Beach 2 received Gold Accessibility Certification and introduced a dedicated sensory room, adding to its inclusive facilities.

It's a particularly thoughtful choice for families and visitors who need additional support to enjoy a day at the beach comfortably.

And if daytime heat isn't your thing, there's a designated night-beach area, offering another way to enjoy the coastline after dark. Check the current swimming hours and designated areas before visiting.

Overall best for: Family beach day, people of determination, night swimming.

Insider tip: there is a little marina at the north side with amazing little restaurants that only locals know about. We love BRIX for breakfast and 3FILS for lunch or dinner. To find the marina, continue towards the northern end of the beach, follow the fence and turn left at the nearest opening. Check the route before setting off, as access points can change.

3. Dubai Islands Beach: A day by the sea with your dog

If you live around Deira or Bur Dubai, Dubai Islands Beach is worth putting on your list. Located in the developing Dubai Islands area, it offers a different atmosphere from the better-known beaches further down the coast.

One of its biggest attractions is that it's a dedicated dog-friendly beach. You can bring your four-legged companion for a swim, a run along the sand or a chance to meet other dogs and their owners. For anyone whose idea of a perfect morning includes watching happy people with happy dogs that's a pretty good reason to visit.

There is also a Starbucks with probably the best view in the world - bring your laptop for some morning stress-free work catch-up, or just sip and journal, while enjoying the scenery.

While exploring the northern end of the beach, you can also head towards Centara Mirage Beach Resort for a meal or a sundowner.

One thing to keep in mind: Dubai Islands is a developing area, so you may notice construction nearby. Once you're settled on the beach, though, it's much easier to focus on the sea and the scenery.

Overall best for: Dog owners or dog lovers, casual walks, swimming and exploring a newer part of Dubai.

Best time to visit: weekdays mornings, weekends sunsets (traffic conditions).

Insider tip: Don't turn back when the beach ends! Follow the path towards Dubai Islands Marina and continue your walk or jog among the boats. You'll also find beautiful views of Burj Khalifa and the Dubai skyline from this side of the waterfront.

4. Antarctica Beach: Dubai's most unexpected escape

Now for something a little different.

What if your quiet beach day didn't involve finding a parking space, carrying your belongings across a promenade or choosing whether to look after your younger child at the playground or elder one swimming too far?

What if you could not only spend few hours in a completely secluded lagoon, snorkel, paddle, beachcomb, but also combine this with a sailboat cruise?

Antarctica Beach is located on Antarctica Island, part of The World Islands archipelago off the coast of Dubai. Here, the city feels close enough to admire but far enough away that its noise and pace seem to disappear. Bliss Yachting offers a sailing escape to Antarctica Beach, with time to enjoy the island, swim, snorkel and paddle.

You can bring your own food and drinks, while Bliss Yachting provides water, soft drinks, ice and crockery. There is no need to plan a restaurant reservation or organize a complicated day out. Just bring what you'd like to eat, a few essentials and a willingness to spend some time away from the usual routine.
